Plato Technology Summit 2023

Working with tech to improve the markets of tomorrow

On the 19th of January 2023, Plato Partnership hosted its inaugural Plato Technology Summit at One Moorgate Plave in London.

The Plato Technology Summit format been designed by the Plato Partnership, a group of 30 leading buy-side and sell-side firms. It’s based on buy-side and sell-side feedback to create a leading financial services technology-focused conference for market participants.

After a hugely successful first conference, the Plato Technology Summit will continue to be an exclusive one-day annual conference based in London with unique approaches for participants and sponsors that differentiates itself from other major industry conferences that are often filled with the same buy-side and sell-side panel discussions.

The conferences are by exclusive, invitation-only for up to 80 trading heads, senior traders and market structure professionals at leading firms and for sponsoring Technology firm representatives.

In order to encourage a free and open discussion, the conference operates under the “Chatham House” rule.

Conference Format

Focused Use-Cases

Real use-case presentations from Technology Sponsors, exhibiting their products with a focus on next-generation tech and real-world applications. Some participants chose to bring a client on stage for a fire-side discussion.

Tech Demonstrations

Small-group technology demonstrations from leading tech providers and fintechs, including “FinTech Alley” - a dedicated space for small FinTech companies to meet leading market participants.

Problem Statement Solutions

Audience members, sponsors and Plato Partnership members collaborate to discuss and find solutions to issues facing the marketplace. Using electronic voting, the audience will vote on the best solution and Plato Partnership will then take it forward as an initiative to be shared with all market participants

100 Women in FinTech

Plato Partnership and 100 Women in Finance have come together to provide a panel forum for female FinTech leaders to discuss their experiences and views, inspiring the next generation of women in FinTech

Testimonials

  • The Plato Technology Summit was an excellent event in which we were very happy to participate. Technology plays an ever-increasing role in capital markets and trading - it makes perfect sense to have this dedicated event under the auspice of Plato. The calibre of attendees was excellent, and I very much valued the opportunity to present specifically on imandra, rather than the usual panel discussions. We would strongly advocate for anyone with a tech-centric solution to embrace this event. From an imandra point of view, we also made some connections during the networking parts of the day that have already proved valuable

Dan Squires, imandra, Technology Sponsor in 2023

  • The Plato Summit presented an opportunity for us to interact with new technology vendors, understand how their technology can fit within our business as well as discuss the challenges that we need to overcome, from a technological standpoint. This format was one that enabled us to have a more open dialogue with vendors that we otherwise may not have interacted with.

Khaled Shahin, MFS, Attendee in 2023

  • Plato Summit represented a unique opportunity for us as a vendor and member of the capital markets technology industry - to network with clients, prospects, and peers, in an open, collaborative learning environment. We were able to share our domain knowledge and in return learn from clients and prospects about their challenges. This open atmosphere facilitated sharing of knowledge and relationship building in a very different way than traditional industry trade shows and events.

Dan Schleifer, Finsemble, Technology Sponsor in 2023

  • It was a pleasure to be able to attend Plato’s inaugural Technology Summit, which bought together a variety of industry professionals to discuss today’s challenges and those that we foresee in the future, in a new way. Listening to fin-techs with their clients discuss their problems, and to understand how they have collaborated to provide value was a good use of time; with similarities in our own use cases, all aimed to reduce risk, increase resiliency and drive efficiencies. Having a session to consider challenges and to be part of evolving beneficial market structure change was inclusive, and where appropriate, we look forwards to working together with Plato to deliver new initiatives.

Neil Blewitt, Turquoise, Attendee in 2023

  • The Plato event was a great occasion to connect with some of our key buy-side partners as well as tech partners we already work with or discovered during the event. The crypto panel which was exclusively female led was also very insightful - great to see so many women on stage.

Séverine Raymond Soulier, Symphony, Technology Sponsor in 2023

  • Thank you again for a great opportunity to present PureStream at the Plato Summit! What a phenomenal event and atmosphere – the free flowing of ideas with a focus on an industry “call to action” was extremely well done. I think the ultimate compliment was I came away with new ideas, vendors, and customers – pretty remarkable over the course of just a day! I could not encourage you enough to host a similar event in the US.

Armando Diaz, Purestream, Technology Sponsor in 2023

  • 100WFinTech, one of 100 Women in Finance (100WF) visibility initiatives, enjoyed participating in the Plato Technology event on January 19th in London. The all-female panel, which included four members of the 100WFinTech Directory, had a lively discussion around how Traditional Financial institutions are engaging with digital assets. The synergy between 100WF and Plato is a great way to elevate the visibility of existing female talent within the financial and fintech sectors as well as promote diversification of under-represented talent.

Kenzy Goodwin, 100WFinTech, Chair of the 100WF Panel in 2023

  • Finceler8 was proud to sponsor the Emerging FinTech Alley at the Plato Technology Summit 2023. The event truly showcased innovative FinTechs in the marketplace and demonstrated the positive impact they are having on the buy-side and sell-side in diving businesses forward. It was a great opportunity and example of how financial institutions and FinTechs can collaborate in a mutually beneficial way. The problem-statement solutions provided great insights on the collective priorities for the industry.

  • I enjoyed presenting at the Plato Tech Summit as the invite-only buy and sell side audience and innovative event format, coupled with Chatham House Rules led to many interesting discussions. I hope to be back next year.

Monica Summerville, Celent, Panellist in 2023

  • The Plato Summit provides opportunities to interact meaningfully and network with clients, peers and innovators as well as providing a practical platform to debate the future agenda.

The growth in electronic trading has increased the amount of natural liquidity that is being governed by an algorithmic execution strategy. As an unintended consequence, institutional natural liquidity has become latent, unfindable, and uncrossable, because it is trapped in an algo, waiting for future market volume.

This reality has constrained the ability of people and their algo’s to differentiate their results and is impacting buyside portfolio performance through extended portfolio implementations.

We are an institutional ATS focused on eliminating these constraints by improving liquidity discovery and natural cross rates amongst algorithmic orders. Our solution creates the new dimension of “liquidity length” to compliment the market’s existing “liquidity depth.”
